Ruth Hernandez

Ruth Hernandez is a screenwriter. She received an MFA from Florida State University. Through her writing she explores the question “Where are you from?” and its repercussions on our current society. She is a NALIP writing fellow, NHMC TV writing Fellow, CULTIVEIGHT fellow, BRIO grant recipient and received a screenwriting residency at Yaddo.


Her script INVISIBLE WOMAN was a TOP TEN finalist in the Zoetrope Screenwriting contest, and a quarterfinalist in the CINESTORY contest. Her script VOTING DAY was selected by the LATINO SCREENWRITING PROJECT as one of the four to be workshopped by Sundance advisors. Her short fiction has been published in “Here Comes Everyone” a British Literary magazine.
Her award-winning pilot BRIGHEST STARS was selected for the ATHENA Writers lab.


She is also an award-winning a sound editor for features and TV series and has been an adjunct at St. John’s University in Queens, and City College in New York. She loves to whistle with her pet parrot, Chuy.
